A native of Puerto Rico, Alfonso José Piacentini worked as a Musical Assistant of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra under Benjamin Zander, where he is now Assistant Conductor. In 2022, he was appointed Music Director of the Lincoln-Sudbury Civic Orchestra. Alfonso has studied conducting with notable figures such as Gerard Schwarz, David Effron, Bruce Hangen, and Ruth Reinhardt. Most recently, he premiered Juana, a new opera by Carla Lucero, as Music Director with Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble in New York City. Alfonso holds an M.M. in orchestral conducting from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and a B.M. in orchestral percussion from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, where he also studied conducting with Rafael E. Irizarry (Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra Associate Conductor). Alfonso maintains conducting engagements in Boston, New York, and Puerto Rico.
